Taking It To The Next Level

I was mental about running for most of 2015 and about half of 2016. Training was basically non-existent and towards the end of 2015. I knew the two marathons for 2016 would be DNS. That decision made it easier for me to have some short runs. I could now run 3 miles on a day when I was scheduled to run 20 miles without any worries. Prior to the DNS decision, I blew of many runs completely because I knew I would not hit the scheduled mileage.

When I am mental, not watching what I eat goes hand in hand with not running. It took a while but I actually made it up to just under 200 lbs. around this past June. I had a 100K tune-up, which included poking and prodding in many orifices, and emerged with a mostly clean bill of health.

Around June, I started watching what I eat and started running a little more. I wanted to take the first crack at getting some weight off and hold it until the tests were complete. I quickly got down to 180 lbs. then slowly got down to 177 lbs.

It is time to take it to the next level. I will use my normal two prong attack - lose weight and run more. The goal is a marathon PR. I won't choose the marathon or the date until I am a lot further along. I do not run when I am injured and I do have some pre-existing conditions that may pop-up, so I am going into this knowing full well that I may have to permanently retire from running prior to hitting my goal. If I am forced to retire from running, I will find another way to get the weight off. YOLO.

Wish me luck!
