Still Recovering

On Sunday mornings I usually put in some solo miles and run a 1/2 mile holding pattern until SRLA starts. Since my marathon is over I decided to run only with SRLA today (no extra solo miles).

SRLA had an 18 mile race last Sunday so they are in recover mode. The run for today was 7.25.

My body felt fine - no niggles, no DOMs, no tiredness. I decided to hang with three of the adults. Today's run include the dreaded freeway overpass. I decided to push it up the hill and told them I would meet them at the top. I accelerated (not a sprint - more like strides) up the hill and then tried to hold the pace. I almost made it to the top. The hill is about 1/4 mile long. My HR was not happy and it made it up to 169.7. I figured no problem it would come down on the recovery. Well, it did come down but not by what it should have. I stopped a the water station at mile 6 (the hill was in mile 4) and my HR quickly went down to 130 (it took about 30 seconds). When I started running again, it went right up to the high 140's then into the low 150's. For that pace, my HR is normally in the upper 130's and maybe the very low 140's. However, it did take a lot of effort to hold that pace, so in reality, my HR was probably appropriate base on effort not based on pace.

I think it was really a tempo run based on my effort, HR, and sustainability of the run.
